Position overview

Director of Communications

The Director of Communications leads the public voice, messaging, and visual identity of Hear Together Foundation. This individual will help communicate the organization’s mission of advancing hearing-loss awareness, health literacy, accessibility, early intervention, and inclusion. The director will ensure that the foundation’s communications are accurate, engaging, accessible, and consistent across its website, social media, newsletters, public announcements, and educational campaigns.

  • Develop and implement an annual communications and marketing strategy.
  • Manage the foundation’s social media platforms and maintain a consistent posting schedule.
  • Create written and visual content highlighting educational resources, community initiatives, interviews, events, partnerships, and organizational accomplishments.
  • Maintain and regularly update the Hear Together Foundation website.
  • Develop newsletters, press releases, public announcements, promotional materials, and awareness campaigns.
  • Establish and maintain brand standards for the foundation’s logo, colors, messaging, and visual materials.
  • Ensure digital content follows accessibility practices, including captions, transcripts, alternative text, readable formatting, and plain-language communication.
  • Collect and share community stories and testimonials after obtaining appropriate permission.
  • Coordinate media outreach and help prepare organizational representatives for interviews and public appearances.
  • Monitor website traffic, social media engagement, newsletter performance, and other communication measures.
  • Collaborate with the Directors of Outreach, Programs, Development, and Advocacy to promote their initiatives.
  • Recruit or supervise communications volunteers, interns, photographers, designers, or content contributors when needed.
Preferred qualifications7 items
  • Experience or interest in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, digital media, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • Strong written, verbal, editing, and storytelling abilities.
  • Familiarity with social media management, website platforms, email marketing, or graphic-design tools.
  • Ability to communicate health and disability-related information respectfully and accurately.
  • Understanding of accessible and inclusive communication practices is strongly preferred.
  • Strong organization, creativity, dependability, and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Hear Together Foundation.
